STATE: Chapter Free

30.Mar.2010 STATE: The Movie

Awesome piece of propaganda put together by the boys at The London Grind featuring footage from our first event. Check out their website for more.

(Note to self: do not do interviews after drinking tequila)

29.Mar.2010 Love’s Tru Flavour @ STATE – Exclusive Mix!

It pleases me hugely to be writing this; Love’s Tru Flavour of Wifey will be controlling the STATE basement on Good Friday 2 April 2010.

The Wifey DJs came to our attention as a result of their storming sets at London’s excellent Infrasonic nights. Veering smoothly away from tried-and-tested bangers and un-soulful hits, Love’s Tru Flavour tread a fine but brilliant line unmatched in the dance. Don’t believe me – listen for yourself.

This awesome mix showcases Love’s Tru Flavour’s sound, offering just a hint of what the Wifey DJs do best – keep you thinking and keep you raving!

19.Mar.2010 Introducing White Tyson – Exclusive Mix

We’re pleased to announce that White Tyson, known as Sam Morgan to his mum, will become a regular fixture at STATE during the coming months. The distinctive White Tyson sound is drawn from a broad spectrum of 2-step styles including UK Funky, what might be called ‘wonky’ and the Glasgow-sound in addition to cut-up-mash-up, soca, tropical and whatever else he feels works in the mix.

Fresh from the digital press this morning is this exclusive White Tyson mix for STATE, complete with jokes artwork! Providing an awesome show of his sound and a sample of what’s in store at future events, we hope this mix will push away the winter blues and usher in another lush London summer.

White Tyson: welcome on-board.

17.Mar.2010 That rare thing, the Blue Daisy

A lot of artists talk of defying genre; resisting categories and labels which they feel are unsympathetic to their creative vision. Despite this, genre does play an important role in aesthetic positioning and of course musical influence. In this context, grows the Blue Daisy. His influences are clear, but his genre affiliation is not, as he skips across the bpm range from one sound to another. In doing so, he embodies everything we at STATE push for in the our club night; simply, sound. Perhaps the new sound, perhaps the London sound, perhaps the sound of a particular time or future existence never to be, but sound all the same. And sound in it’s most beautiful, majestic form is what Blue Daisy will be bringing to our next event – Chapter Two: The Soldier – and we are proud to have him.

For a sample the Blue Daisy sound, check out this mix he put together for Drowned in Sound.

As an alternative, check out the mix put together for The Quietus via Sonic Router (both equally excellent in their own right). Hit the link for an insightful interview and mix (sorry – no player).

Finally, some examples of Blue Daisy’s awesome production work for you.
